Want the truth? I don't care about skincare. I never did.
I am a trained and (sometimes) working actress. So what do I know, huh?
For one thing, I am daughter of my mom and dad, who raised me cooking, DIYing, exploring, trying to get me hooked on science, art, and encouraging me to always play.
To really get to the part in which I started a skincare business, we must flash forward two decades (and then some), skip the dozens of part-time jobs and creative entrepreneur ideas, and take a look at this girl who moved from Italy to NY in 2012 to pursue an acting career.
We are now in 2014.
Broke as one can be, I was among other priorities, desperately looking for a new antiage (ugh) face lotion; by now I had already become familiar with the concept of toxic ingredients. I knew better than to just go to a discount store and purchase "organic", "all natural", "green" crap. Ever heard of greenwashing? That's not the point of this post, I'll get to it in a soon-to-come-post.
2014 was also the booming era of social media and - drum roll - Pinterest. So, I decide to go on a quest and make my own lotion. A WORLD HAD JUST OPENED ITSELF TO ME
I start reading, and learning, and trying, and learning, and researching, and testing, and learning some more. Wow. Before I knew it, my skin was healthy, soft, and glowing, my family and friends wanted some of my products too.
All it took was for my husband to nudge me a little, and see this as a business.
BODY STUFF was born.
Why the name? It was the first and only thing that stuck. Because that's all I wanted to create. These are healthy, simple, homemade products. It's just "stuff", people. Put it on your face, your feet, your hair, it doesn't matter. Put it where it feels nice, it's all natural, it won't hurt you. That was going to be the driving force behind my products.
Then came all the business challenges and victories...and I'm now, incredulously, an entrepreneur.
BODY STUFF is a little over a year in.
I figured I know a thing or two by now, on natural products, on the market, on greenwashing, and on launching a business, and more stuff that I'm not even sure people know that they may want to know. My philosophy has consolidated, which is exciting. A NO BS philosophy, and I'm ready to share it with the world-wide-web.
Til next time. :-)
Born and raised in the Italian countryside, I moved to NYC to pursue my entrepreneurial, and artistic dreams. This blog is the voice of my NO BS philosophy: where I see it, I call it out. I share beauty hacks, DIY ideas, sustainable practices, for a happier, fuller, simpler life. There is nothing more powerful than a community of people eager to learn, so thank you for being part of the NO BS philosophy.
